Cutting-Edge Shell VIV Presentation Contributes to Multi-Million Dollar Sales Leads

 

Goals

  • Shell Global Solutions contracted Ward Creative Communications to develop a digital presentation and associated material to introduce Shell’s full line of Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) suppression services and devices to the attendees at the 2002 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston. VIV is a potentially dangerous and environmentally hazardous problem in the deep waters offshore, where drilling and production platforms operate. Shell provides devices that fit on the underwater tubulars (pipelines, drilling risers and tendons) of offshore drilling and production platforms to dramatically reduce VIV.

  • Shell wanted to inform prospective VIV purchasers about the technology and provide historical background information and demonstrate the impact it would have on deepwater drilling operations.

  • Additionally, the company wanted to introduce the technical staff’s qualifications through the presentation and support materials as it would later be used by key Shell spokespersons for their sales and marketing meetings with potential clients.

Strategy

  • In less than one month, Ward Creative Communications staff interviewed engineers and studied background information to convey the technology’s capabilities through a short, catchy digital flash presentation suitable for Shell’s OTC tradeshow booth.

  • The agency also recommended and produced a longer, more informative PowerPoint presentation as well as support materials that were produced in electronic format for use by sales personnel and downloading via their web site at: www.shellglobalsolutions.com/exploration/viv.

     

Results

  • The introduction of Shell’s VIV technology and service at the 2002 OTC was a success due in part to the creative presentation and associated digital material used to disseminate information to the deepwater exploration and production community.

  • The client was extremely pleased with the final products the agency produced as it formed the basis for a more complete sales and marketing package.

  • Several major multi-million-dollar sales leads came from booth activity and since producing the original VIV materials, Ward Creative Communications revamped the materials and subsequently provided additional material for the client resulting in that most important measurement of success – a repeat customer.
